My Civic Duty

I was on call for jury duty all last week, and finally got called in to serve on Friday. I was a bit groggy from Thursday night (which was awesome by the way) and didn’t remember I still had to call in to see if I had to report until about 7:45. At which point I learned I had to report to the County Court in freakin’ Hollywood at 8:45. Needless to say I was late. I hate driving to Hollywood, most aggravating traffic in all of LA as far as I’m concerned. I’d rather drive downtown. And guess what I did all day? That’s right, absolutely nothing! Going on very little sleep from two nights in a row at the Roxy I was in no mood to sit next to a smelly stranger and wait for nothing to happen. Could have been worse, at least I didn’t actually have to serve on a jury and only one day of my time was wasted.

I finally saw Pirates of the Caribbean last night. I love Johnny Depp, I have ever since Edward Scissorhands. I enjoyed the movie, great CG animation and physical comedy as well. Can’t wait for Pirates 3! I also caught The Aviator on DVD this weekend. A bit long, but enjoyable enough.

So many people in my office are out of town this week it’s like a ghost town around here. I’m sleepy, it’s Monday, and food I left in the fridge last week is gone so I will be forced to venture outward and find lunch later. *sigh*

Don't you just love your civic responsibilty? :) I was called into jury duty on the grandopening first day of my bakehouse srore to open. I was stressed from opening the doors of the new store and then to have to find someone to cover for me on the first day was no fun. I did have to sit there arll day, but was not chose (I was so glad).

My son has been bugging me about seein the Pirates... 2 movie. Glad you enjoyed it, perhaps I will too.

ARRRRRRRRRGH! PIRATES! Aye, matey, i haven't seen any of der movies but me lubs da ride at Disneyland. ARRRRRRRRGH! Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me! (And i don't mean the Pittsburgh Pirates either!) Get ready to walk da plank, Shan!

Oh man, my advil knockoff must be kickin' in. I'm goofy. (Hey, another Disney reference.)

Oy, i can't imagine jury duty in Los Angeles! It's bad enough HERE in S.Diego... I am sure that was not the most pleasant of days. Have you ever served on a jury, Shan?

I got called last year and almost made it onto a jury, but when they found out i was a newspaper person, the lawyers asking queries really got into it with me, and i with them. Methinks i am too up front with my opinions and so was booted off early on. Waaaaaah. I actually wanted to serve.

So no moe. review then? How many times did you and the b'day boy end up seeing/hearing them?

ahhh jury duty...kills me.

Too bad you didn't knit or you could have knit while you "did nothing". :)

I saw My Super Ex GF this weekend. Was pretty damn funny. Not the BEST movie, but was very entertaining.

This was my first summons for jury duty. Lucky me.

I didn’t knit, but I tried to crochet. At some point I was just overtaken by sleepiness and couldn’t do anything but close my eyes and wait for it to be over.

I think the mystery of my food being gone has to do with the new maintenance dude. The old one used to label things with a date every Friday and throw things out if they seemed abandoned. Maybe this one just chucks everything. It wasn’t much, just some rice and veggies and seitan in a gladware, but dammit that was gonna be my lunch and I need my gladware! Unfortunately I’ve heard about lunch theft around here, but usually no one bothers with my stuff, too healthy and vegetarian :P

moe. was playing the Roxy Tuesday – Friday last week. We just saw them Wed and Thurs, but in total I’ve probably seen moe. about 15 times? I’d have to count my stubs. I preferred the Wed show, but both were good. Wed they played Timmy Tucker in the first set and came back to close with it in the second. Wed also saw an awesome Buster> Californ IA in the second set that made me dance my ass off despite it being 110 degrees, steamy and stinking of shirtless sweaty hippies. And Al looked like he was tripping BALLS, his eyes here HUGE.

Thurs night the first set was a little wam, bam, no jam outs there, but solid. They closed with Happy Hour Hero, perfect choice I love that song.

Friday’s show looks like it was awesome!

Set I: Water> Rebubula> Waiting For The Punchline, Akimbo, So Long> Water
Set II: The Pit> Kids1, Lost Along the Way> Captain America, Kyle's Song> Bend Sinister2> Shoot First> Head
Encore: Wicked Awesome> Rebubula

1 Kyle's song jam before kids
2 Last time played 04/03/04 (201 shows)

Kind of sorry I missed it. If you’re interested moe. is one of the few cool bands left that will let you download their live music for free. God bless the tapers. If you’re interested you can visit moe.org, Phantasy moe., and sample a bit of music here.

I loved jury duty because I got home at noon and then spent the day doing nothing with my crush. LOL.
