...and stuff

Man, I have been such a slacker in the blogging department lately. What can I say, work is making want to bash my skull in and I have to be at the airport at 5 am tomorrow for what reason? That’s right, WORK. I’ll be visiting the beautiful bay area of California for the first time, but don’t worry I won’t have any time to enjoy it because I’ll be in meetings all day. Then I’m flying right back to LA, and it will mercifully be the weekend once again.

Hmmm, what else? Watched the first disk of Desperate Housewives season 1 and really liked it. I was surprised. We had a margarita party on Saturday, I was toasted and it was fun. We took a hike in Runyon Canyon on MLK day with the dog and he was so well behaved with all the other doggies there. I was impressed. My dad called me yesterday with the bad news that Grandma had a stroke and will probably have to move into assisted living, so that sucks. Well, I guess that’s it. I am stressed. I want to go on a vacation now!

Huh?

Guess where I was at 5:30 am this morning? No, go ahead guess. OK, I'll just tell you. I was at the Y in the pool at 5:30 am. Yes, by the time I am usually hitting the first snooze button I had been swimming for an hour, 2500 yards. I am so hard core. Let's hope this was not an isolated incident.

I got to use my brand new speedo that I bought on e-bay last month.
Purple, pretty! It's a little more grandma-cut than my old suit, with a higher back and it has foam cups in the liner, but it does have the advantage of slimming the waist and hiding my back fat (yes I have back fat, which is why I was in the pool at such an ungodly hour).

Also, I was at my desk a full 15 minutes early today. It's like a total stranger switched places with me in my sleep. But I like her. I hope she sticks around.

Happy Humpday!

It stinks!

If you or anyone you know is planning on seeing the movie Syriana, just do yourself a favor and don’t bother. Save those 126 minuets of your life and do something useful. We went to the movies yesterday afternoon and bought tickets to go see The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but when we finally made it into the theater (for some reason it takes a good solid 5 minutes to get an over-priced diet Pepsi at concessions, even when there is no line. Yeah, I don’t get it either) it was very full and we realized that we were either not going to sit together or we were going to be craning our necks in the very front row. Instead, we opted to hop into another theater, and Syriana just happened to be starting in a few minutes.

I can’t begin to tell you how bad this film was. I’ll just say I can’t remember the last time I was so freakin’ BORED in a movie theater. No discernable plot, the characters are opaque and underdeveloped, as are the characters’ relationships to each other. What the hell was the point of this film? Couldn’t tell you. The acting was actually quite good, but that alone could not save this disaster. I kind of feel like this is one of those films that people say they liked just so they don’t have to admit they didn’t get it and feel stupid. I just think there wasn’t much to get. The US is too dependant on foreign oil and the big players are all corrupt scumbags that will stop at nothing to keep the status quo and make big bucks, keep poor nations subservient and squander a quickly disappearing and non-renewable natural resource. OK, that could have been the point of the film, but that’s just my speculation it’s not like they made that at all clear. And besides, that's hardly an interesting or new position. I want my $8 back.

So, anyone seen any good movies lately?
